I should think that'd have something to do with the length of stack and size/shape of the exhaust nozzles. At any rate putting on a good show is a desirable trait for a functioning museum piece.
The deckless cab looks at a glance to be a little bit wider than is sometimes encountered on such engines and perhaps a bit more livable--but that could also be an optical illusion due to camera angles/etc. How does it compare to the various consolidations you've worked on?
