I was looking to make reservations this summer for either the C&TS or the D&S and was a bit surprised by the rates for the C&TS, having not ridden it for 12 years, then I checked the D&S website and saw this:
Cascade Canyon Train 2004 (Diesel) 6/21- 8/5/04
Depart Durango 11:00 AM
Arrive Cascade 1:05 PM
Depart Cascade 2:15 PM
Arrive Durango 4:20 PM
I haven't been checking this page as faithfully as I used to, but does anyone know how D&S management is expecting this to be recieved by the public?
I know they have the "hot shot" engine, but are they planning to use the EBT engines for this run?
I imagine the K-28's will be the backup if there are any problems. I wonder how many coaches are being used on this run, and how many diesels will be needed to pull the coaches up the grade. I know I will not waste my $$ for a ride to Cascade behind a diesel, but some folks may be looking for a shorter trip that doesn't begin so early, or so late like the old Cascade runs. I imagine several coaches have been set aside for the run, but could be added to the regular runs if the demand arises.
Does anyone have more info on this?
Thanks
