Last weekend we went out exploring along the SFP&P grade near Prescott and I really want to get back out there but it is a little too warm right now. Instead we decided to head up towards Flagstaff to do some exploring in the low 70s. Since I had hiked some of the grade in Fulton Canyon last fall I wanted to complete a couple of spurs that I had spotted in the aerial photos. This would take us further south of where I left off the last time.
We ended up hiking three spurs today after finding an additional short spur that I hadn't noticed from the aerials. I'll be adding my photos to the map that I was working on last fall so that the three spurs will be visible.
In the mean time here are some of the artifacts that we discovered out in the forest.
This was the most interesting rusty object that was found in the rocks.
A shot of the other side.
Quite a few piece of wire rope were found out along the grade.
An intact angle bar. We also found some broken ones.
We found one stick of rail that was spanning a former bridge site. Of course the writing was on the underside but we did make out CF&I CO SEC 451.
