A couple times on our 1980s pilgrimages to the EBT, we would go the long way around and drop in to see #4 at the Greene County Museum in Waynesburg PA. Never really got a good look as it was never outdoors, in fact I don’t even think I took photos. Back then it was in a rather breezy shed you could peek into, altho more recent photos suggest it’s now even better protected.
All that being said, this handsome engine had dropped off my radar until I stumbled across this old article, talking about the restoration of three locomotives - D&RGW 315, SP 18, and W&W 4. Thankfully two of the three have come to pass, but I wonder what’s the current situation with #4? I did a search of the NGDF and nothing turned up. I could contact the museum for an update, but am thinking some folks here might know.
Now #4 doesn’t really have anywhere to run to make a restoration viable, but with all the locomotives visiting the D&S and C&TS as a precedent, the possibility of a visit to the EBT would certainly be well received. I know the EBT has enough on its plate without thinking this far ahead - but all in the fullness of time.....
