This weekend had the Como Track crew out working on the switch in front of the Como Hotel. The line to the right went to Denver and to the left, it went over Boreas Pass to Breckenridge
Speaking of Boreas Pass, we also had volunteers Rochelle Rhone, Bob Revis and David Tomkins lead by Bob Schoppe on top of the Pass preparing C&S Boxcar #8311 for its trip down to its new home in Como. This is part of our larger goal to preserve original C&S equipment in Como. Now, the #8311 is not "totally" original as this boxcar was cut down to a flatcar by the White Pass & Yukon Railway many years ago. It also served a a rider gondola being pulled by C&S #71 in Central City in the late 1980s. However in 1997, Marlin Uhrich rebuilt the boxcar body on the original frame and running gear and did a very nice job. So, this is an original Type 3 C&S boxcar from the rail up to the deck and above that it was rebuilt using a good amount of original hardware.
If you want to help with the restoration of original C&S freight cars, please consider a donation
to our C&S Boxcar Restoration Fund
Thank You from South Park Rail Society and the volunteers of The Como Project
