42 inch gauge is a common gauge used in many former British Colonies. 42 inch gauge is still in use in New Zealand, Australia,South Africa and several lines in Canada. I know that I skipped a couple of Countries on Southern African Continent that connected to South Africa besides Zimbabwe. However it was not common in United Kingdom.
