Interesting that this name was used by the Toronto Grey & Bruce. In California there is a county and lake named Mono (MOH-noh) on the east side of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. That name comes from the local Mono people a subgroup of the native Paiute Tribe.

The county contains the old mining camp of Bodie and there was a narrow-gauge railroad that hauled timber and fire wood to the camp. That railroad had a locomotive named "Mono."

Currently Mono County contains the Mammoth Mountain ski resort. And its county seat of Bridgeport still uses the wooden courthouse built in 1880.
