At the WP&Y main dock (they were using at least one other) we had seen a rather anonymous sign next to a trail- "Reid Falls". Hiking up the side of the mountain we found it was the maintenance trail for the city (?) water supply (the water was flowing through an ancient wooden main except where it had failed and was flowing in an open ditch). At 3 miles up or so are the falls, named after the surveyor who shot and killed Soapy Smith in the famous gold rush confrontation between the outlaw town boss and his minions and the vigilantes. Frank died as well, but he got a falls named after him (and a nicer grave as well).
