I've been working on snifter valves today for my mini K-27 project and started studying photos of 463. The plans have a very simple design and I wanted to add more detail. This lead me to questions after looking over photos. The first question is why do these valves have the round protrusion at the top? Is that for the end of an internal shaft or possibly a lube cup? What is the internal design of these valves? The model will have a simple floating ball that will seal under steam pressure and drop down with no pressure or a vacuum. I took a look in the locomotive cyclopedia but those seem to be a later and more complicated design.
