The "Georgetown Loop Fire" and the "Ute Pass Railroad" awakened some long-ago brain cells:
Any of you other old-timers remember a giant indoor model railroad display in downtown Georgetown back in the 60s? I remember visiting it (and being totally enthralled) in the summer of 1962, during a family camping trip to Colorado. I don't know how we heard about it, but I demanded a visit. I was totally into model trains and thought I'd died and gone to heaven when I saw the layout. To my 13-y/o eyes it looked like it covered acres of real estate inside the building; probably not, but it was big. Lots of track, scenery under construction and an accurate, if I recall, recreation of the High Trestle. I'm pretty certain my dad took a couple of photos but they are probably long gone.
I don't think it's still around and I don't remember finding it when I visited Georgetown again in the early 80s when I moved to Leadville. Anybody else have memories of that?
