Please, no need to be sorry, I wasn't knocking it. Like I said - always nice to see different stuff from the wood car era (my focus), so it is nice to have the information even if not for this particular project and I did save and look it over thoroughly for anything I can use.
As for the 49, I had read somewhere that 0548/49 was in far rougher and modified condition than SN1005 so I hoped that someone associated with 1005 would be on NGDF to get closer to the original, but will likely have to try to get what I can from CRRM. I did see your 1980 'before' side pic and the 1981 pics of 0548 posted on here by Dick Bell. Interesting that the 0548 sidewall diagonal bracing does not match the 1885 Class 1 drawings, so did DRG change bracing gradually as the sill wood wore out or was it just regular engineering changes made (or both)?
Another curious observation is that the 1885 drawings show the door and corner posts as square with chamfers on the latter, yet I have yet to find any photos showing anything but the standard rounded posts on Class 1s even after rebuilds. Even the first four J&S cars had rounded posts.
