This summer could be a disaster for the Alaska Cruise Ship industry.
The Feds are recommending to avoid cruise ships, especially seniors.
Virus epidemics normally diminish during hot summer weather, but the weather for Alaskan
cruises, colder and wetter, could move the epidemic into Alaska unless cruise ships abandon the route.
Last week cruise ships were being redeployed to the West Coast from Asia routes due to
epidemic from China. Now with Seattle leading the nation in Coronavirus deaths and the
quarantine of a West Coast Route cruise ship crew; the possible tourist boom from more ships
sailing on the West Coast could quickly turn into a major bust. No West Coast port would be
more impacted than Skagway by cancelled cruises, and no railroad operation more impacted
by loss of cruise ship passengers than the White Pass.
With a month to go until the start of the Alaska Cruise Season, the season could be in jeopardy.
