I really like the C&TS D&RG Passenger coach restorations but the fact that they replaced almost all original wood has confused me. Sure I get that a lot of the wood is too far gone but a small amount of it could have been recovered. With most of the DRHS Railcar Restorations I've worked on like Reefer 39, we tried to save as much original siding as possible by treating it in Linseed oil. 39 has more original wood intact because 3/4 of the car was kept indoors since the mid-1950s though (not to say it didn't have deteriorating wood), it is a different case if a car has been sitting in the weather for 50 years.
