I'm glad someone posted the video shot on the line as I was planning on doing that at the end. The Ferries and Cliff House had at least 8 locomotives ranging from 20 tons to 31 tons. Very little is known about most of their histories once they left the F &CH RY.
Here's the last photos:
Here's a John Mentz photo from the Randolph Brandt collection of the Depot of the F&CH RY which was located at California Street and Central Ave:
The view is looking west. This is where street and cable car lines made connections for the train to the Cliff House.
And here's a Google Earth image of the same location today:
The location is now the Jewish Community Center
The final set of photos is of the largest artifact left from the Ferries and Cliff House: The Seventh Avenue and Fulton Depot at Golden Gate Park. The F & CH RY built a branch from California Street down 7th Avenue to the park and then west a short distance to a Casino on 24th Ave. Here's a photo from the Randolph Brandt collection of the Depot in 1891:
And here it is in 2020:
Apparently, not only is the Depot the most significant remains of the Ferries and Cliff House, but it is also the last steam passenger depot left in San Francisco.
That's all for now.
Hope you all enjoyed the trip. I've wanted to explore this route for over 40 years, but there was always something that got in the way until now....
