Frank Wright was alert and sharp when I was with him. Clarence Russell was in a nursing home and not as sharp. I wish I could have spent more time with both of them but Air Force sent me to Germany in 1976. Frank did not like to write letters but got a few each year. I talked to him one time when I came back to Colorado in 1979, but he died before I could get back to Grand Junction. Clarence died while I was in Germany. Clarence was engineer on the last run of 318 to Ouray and Frank was fireman. Frank was engineer on 268 the last time it ran with a D&RGW crew.
One of my prized possessions is a bolo tie made by Frank. It has a polished stone that he did while working the Lake City branch in the 1920s.My other prized possession is 8 original negatives that Frank gave me. He shot them in 1927 while riding on Rotary OO with 360 and 361 going to the Smith Hill Mine on the Anthracite branch.
