The D&RGW guys I became friends with had remarkably sharp memories They could remember minute details. They were not so good with dates. I was able to verify some of their accounts from newspaper reports. Frank Wright told me of being hit by a slide at almost the same spot where a slide hit the train described in Lathrop's book. He said this time he was firing a mudhen and the slide just pushed over the engine without turning it over He did not remember the date, but there was an account in two newspapers. Some do not put a lot of faith in the accounts of old retired guys, but I was able to verify almost everything they shared with me. I have hours of tapes of my conversations with them. Only a small portion of the tapes have been transcribed.
