I'll second that motion, Brian -
IMHO, while a four-colour logo as in my post above would work on a medium-sized patch, it would probably be a bit too complex for the coarser weave of a shirt – especially a polo – so one of the following might be better

Note that in all cases I used the numeral '5' of the Clarendon font, which matches the font used for the 'Scenic Line of the West', etc., as I don't have a good illustration of the numeral '5' as used by the D&RGW on their locomotives. The '5' on all of these examples probably needs to be modified somewhat

Also, if The Friends still have the digital file for the logo used on the shirts marketed ten years ago, it should be fairly easy to change the '4' to a '5' for this year's celebration.
