Both photos are reminiscent of those of the last days of the RGS 20 years earlier. The weathered side of the box car and the lack of foliage near the Cresco trestle date the time pretty well. The roof of the water tank looks like it collected quite a bit of soft rain water. You must feel fortunate to have witnessed it, Greg.
