I forgot one VW Bug story, besides the two guys I commuted to college with. In 1972 I made my first overseas trip, with my brother, and friend Tom. Flew Icelandic Airways after driving my car to New York. RT to Luxembourg $168.00 in the summer. We went there cause it was a cheap destination for 3 college guys, and the car rental was cheap. We rented a VW bug for 4 weeks and drive through Germany down along the French coast, into Spain, and back through the Alps to Germany, Holland and back to Luxembourg. While I had trouble sitting in the passenger side, the driver side was okay so I drove mostly, but once it awhile would sit sideways in the back when Tom would drive. In a video we did recently there is a movie clip I took of Tom driving through France and I was in the back seat with the camera. I do not remember what the rental was but we split it and the gas three ways. We stayed in motels or guesthouses every night. Total cost of the 4 week trip $500.00!!!! Amazing, right?
