I drove around it in '92, couldn't see the outside edge of the curve(road surface) over the bonnet of the rentalcar coming back down. Now on a 45km/h(or 71/2 chains curve) here, you can't see the inside curve rail around the high shorthood, who only knows what track could be seen around that sidetank on the Mallets, I doubt anything!
Couple that to the extreme grade and the embankment of the curve itself, I guess it was as close to being airborne you'd get on a US narrow gauge.
