When we visited in 2017, the friendly front-desk clerk at the Royal Sportsman Hotel in Porthmadog asked me,
"So what brings you to Porthmadog, Mr. Marshall?"
"I'm interested in narrow gauge steam railways..."
"Well then, you've come to the right place!"
