Momentous day for 168 and Caboose 0503

168 is about to pull its first train in 83 years west out of Antonito. Behind the168 is drop bottom gon 787 and caboose 0503. It is interesting to note that the last train ever pulled by 168 back in 1936 was the movie train returning from Santa Fe to Alamosa in 1936 after filming of “The Texas Ranger”. The caboose on that last run of 168 was 0503. Today, the 168 and the 0503 are rejoined for the first train pulled by 168 in 83 years. Thus the last train pulled by 168 in 1936 had 0503 as its caboose and the first train pulled by the 168 in 2019 has 0503 as its caboose. Kind of amazing they are back together after 83 years!
