Looks to be around 1907-08 when the majority of the class 56 engines were off to the boneyard.

So I've always assumed. Well, the new line west of La Veta, conversion of the Creede branch & the line west from Montrose, arrival of the class 125 engines(all 1898-1906) and general slump in traffic due to the "Rich Man's Panic" of 1907 pretty much wrote off all power smaller than Class 60(freight) & 45.5 (Pass.) except for a very few Class 56 kept for switching and mostly converted to 0-8-0. (finally scrapped ca. 1917)

PS as to original boilers, ISTR seeing one of #228 (nee #22) still with it's original boiler at Gunnison in the 1920's... I'll try to remember to look for that when I get home!
