I have fond memories of No. 18, especially during my family's first visit to the Grand Canyon Railway on September 27th, 2001. The most vivid memory I have from that visit was on the day before I rode the train when my family arrived at Williams, Arizona just in time to see and hear No. 18 pull into the station ringing her automatic bell and exuding her distinctive sharp stack talk. That was an experience which I will never forget. The last time I saw her in operation was in June of 2010 when my family was on our way to Antonito, Colorado to ride the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, when we stopped by the station in Alamosa just in time to relive that moment from our Grand Canyon visit from nine years prior. I still remember standing on the platform seeing and hearing No. 18's exhaust and bell once again with a big smile on my face. Fingers crossed for a comeback soon under a new owner.
