The Carson and Colorado Railway – operators of Southern Pacific Narrow Gauge Engine #18, and the Sumpter Valley Railroad Restoration Inc. are proud to announce the acquisition of three historic boxcars, formerly from the Southern Pacific Narrow Gauge Keeler Branch.
Since 1986, the cars have been part of the Silverwood Central Railroad, located at the beautiful Silverwood Theme Park in Northern Idaho. The cars, along with other pieces of equipment were acquired by Gary Norton from the William Harrah collection to form the foundation of the Silverwood Central Railroad. The three boxcars - ex SP numbers 1C, 12, and 20 – are some of the very few remaining, complete, unaltered pieces of SP Narrow Gauge equipment.
Through the transaction the Carson and Colorado will receive car #1C for use with SP engine #18 at the Eastern California Museum in Independence, CA while cars #12 and 20 will become part of the historic collection of the Sumpter Valley Railroad in McEwen, Oregon where they will ultimately be restored to operation.
Money needs to be raised by both groups to move these 3 historic narrow gauge boxcars.
Tax deductible donations can be made, and are greatly appreciated, to either organization towards the transportation and restoration of the cars.
