Today, we have to make a lot of parts. Back then, parts came new in a box and they just bolted them on.

I can't tell you how many days I have spent making something new from bar stock, that I know was just a shelf item back in 1960. Also, experience counts. If you asked me to make a second copy of all these parts, I could probably knock one out in an hour.
