Black is the general color I have seen. Granted every passenger car I have laid under had already been around for more than 100 years. That being said how often would the D&RG paint an undercarriage.
Here is a photo of the weight stencil on one of the needle beams of RGS business car EDNA. Note the surrounding area and queen post are black.
