My first trip to narrow gauge country was in August of 1963 and I was wandering around the Alamosa shop area when I heard this hammering going on for a long time.Investigating I found a workman with a very large hammer pound away at the smokebox front in the roundhouse, it was 490 seeking one last chance to be alive in the form of the front end of 492. Sorry the photo is not more clear but here it is.
