Hi Chris,
Yes, that’s been my experience in the past, but I’m told that this time, he was using a new set-up, with LED “hot lights”. With those, you don’t get the “shutter effect” of an instantaneous strobe, so you need a lot of light if you want to use a quick shutter. I’m not a fan of night shots taken with long exposures, because the steam, smoke.....and people’s faces become a big, ugly blur. With more light, you can jack the ISO and the shutter, and the result is a more natural-looking photo.
