To expand a little bit on what Ed and Keith mentioned - if visiting the Acadia/Mt. Desert Island area, and you're into antique autos, be sure to visit the Seal Cove Auto Museum, on the west (quiet) side of MDI. It covers the brass age of autos. Not as large as Owl's Head Transportation, but worth the visit.

To bring it back tangentially to railroads - at one time a cog railway ran up the side of Mount Cadillac. The auto road to the top passes by it (but you have to know where to look).
