Don’t forget the Sandy River museum in Phillips, Maine.
And yes you can do more than one in a day......but each museum is worth a day on its own. They are all worth an extended visit.
As to non- narrow gauge, not far from Acadia in Ellsworth is a group restoring Maine Central 470 a handsome Std. gauge 4-6-2 and the last steam locomotive to run on the Maine Central RR. Also there are beautiful light houses and scenic vistas all up and down the coast too.
The Owl’s Head Transportation museum is also worth a visit. In addition to having one of the Sandy River Model T track cars, they have a world class collection of antique automobiles and pioneer era aero planes. On select weekends they have events where you will see the cars and early aeroplanes in action.
