I would suggest, if printing large parts that will be outside, use acrylonitrile styrene acrylate (ASA) plastic. UV resistant, unlike ABS, and also has a low thermal expansion constant like PLA (which makes for less warping and cracking on large parts). Obviously you'd want to paint the finished part regardless, but ASA provides an extra layer of protection when the paint inevitably gets cracked or scratched.
I've been using it lately for some outdoor weather station parts to very good results, even in the high UV conditions of eastern Colorado.
