Good Memories, Dave – Thank You for posting!
The "classic" six inch tall 'CUMBRES & TOLTEC SCENIC RR' press-on vinyl lettering was applied to one side of #488 at Cumbres early that morning, and the other side at Osier during the lunch stop. The four-color heralds were magnetic, about 24" wide by 26" tall, and not as "clingy" as we hoped — one of them was apparently "borrowed", or blown off the tender somewhere near Big Horn or The Whiplash, and never seen again. IIRC, we "rescued" the other one, and later applied it to Roger Hogan's "Camo-mobile" (see [
ngdiscussion.net]).
IIRC, Alan Loomis allowed both the classic lettering on #488 and the green jacket on #489 to remain for the remainder of the 2010 season — which in the case of the former was only seven or eight weeks, but in the case of the latter the entire 2010 season.
Converting the logo from "40 Years" to "50 Years" would take me less than an hour, if anyone is interested. IIRC, the pair of magnetic ones cost me around $400 in 2010; I assume a press-on vinyl pair would be significantly less. Anyone know if "Design-A-Sign" on the west side of Pagosa Springs is still in business?
