Hi Robbie,
Unfortunately, this charter proposal differed from the vast majority in that the idea was floated barely 6 weeks before the event was to take place. The only way that would have worked is if folks had quickly sold it out and the event had been declared a "go" with a very few days. That's not normally how Pete does things. He typically announces MONTHS in advance, so there is plenty of time for folks to make decisions and book travel. In this case, I think the idea was pitched to Pete on short notice and he got the word out as fast as he possibly could. Unfortunately, once you get within 4-5 weeks of the travel date, the airlines start jacking the fares. As I noted in my response to Michael's post, my airfare went from $350 to $450 in a week. Now, I suspect it would be well over $500. What looked like a really good deal 2 weeks ago no longer does.....although I still bought the plane ticket at $450 and was ready to go anyway.
Last minute announcements like this only work for what I refer to as the "drive-to" crowd.....meaning they can "drive-to" the event and don't have to book airfares or rent cars. People who live close to the event sites have a huge advantage over those of us who live more than half a country away.
Would love to see the 18 return to Laws. Not much track there, but the photos that came out of last year's event were excellent and it remains one of my biggest regrets that I didn't go.
