Oscar's is my default breakfast stop when I'm not riding the train. I have some friends who live in Durango and that's where they told me to go. The prices are reasonable, the food is just what I want, and it's a place the locals patronize.
I lived in Savannah, GA while attending grad school. Savannah is a tourist town, which made life interesting as a local. The locals avoided the tourist-oriented restaurants and shops in favor of better options that were a bit less well known. If given a choice between a tourist place and a local place, opt for the local place! It will often provide better quality relative to price and often a less chaotic atmosphere.
Of course, I'm just happy to be in Durango whenever I can get there!
