The same concept was used with other air brake equipment.

For standard gauge passenger cars there were the L-1, L-2, and L-3 triple valves. The higher numbers went with larger cylinders. To make sure they were mated correctly, these also used a different number of mounting bolts: L-1 had 2 bolts, L-2 had 3 bolts, and the L-3 had 4 bolts.
