Sunday was another work day in Como;
Stall 2 of the roundhouse has been fully cleaned out. Thanks to volunteer Chris Tome, the dirt floor has been graveled so visitors will no linger be engulfed in clouds of dust. (Long term plan is to rebuild the wood floor in the roundhouse, gravel is an interim step until that goal can be accomplished).
The D&RG roundhouse stove was placed on display on an intact section of the original floor. There was originally a stove in this location and we left this part of the floor in place to communicate to visitors what was and what shall be. The gravel is being extended to the back wall this week.
Track 9 (on the right) now has four rail lengths of track in place. This track will connect up with track 10 (left) up by the carbodies in the distance.
On June 15 and 16 track 14 (left) had 4 rail lengths of track installed. (these two tracks are across the turntable from the tracks in the photo above. Track 13(right) leads to the ashpit.)
C&S 8027 was moved down to the end of its track and loaded up with all of the artifacts that have been found in Como over the years. (we find a lot of stuff in the dirt!). 8027 will be used to house, catalog and display the artifacts, we plan to build some stairs to make it easier to get in and out of the car. During events such as Boreas Pass RR Day (August 17 this year) 8027 will be moved to the other end of its track to afford better viewing and photo opportunities.
