Emergency medical care on the trains

June 23, 2019 02:11PM
I was watching the Chama depot camera this morning and they had a medical emergency before the train departed the depot.

Hope the patient is OK.

That begs the question(s), how does each railroad handle medical emergencies given the remoteness of the areas?

I would suspect that the C&TS as well as the D&S have automatic defib units, AED, as well as the train crews being trained in first aid response and CPR training.

Given the age of some of the riders, hopefully they at least have the AED's, maybe oxygen for the patient.

The C&TS stands a little better chance for a medical helicopter responding for some of the area, but for most of the trip on the D&S, I guess the patient would have to wait until Silverton or Durango.

Just wondering.
