Looking at the positioning of all the control and gauges, obviously Ergonomic wasn't yet in the Dictionary when that Loco was designed.
Way back in my firing days, I can recall a Driver telling me if you can't see it, then move your $%&@ head. Some years later when they rebuilt the high hoods to a low nose, but on the first batch, they didn't cut off the Gauges/Ammeter along the top of the Control stand, I got to tell that same Driver to stick his head up and look over for certain lineside Signals instead of griping about it.
