482 and 476 in the Animas Canyon today, 5-30-19

This morning we had a perfect cloudless sky over the San Juan Mountains, so I decided to take a chance and head over to Silverton, even though the mid day arrival of the two trains in the upper canyon often coincides with cloud build up. So that is what happened , but I will post a few shots anyway. Hiking to the canyon edge over deep snow, I managed to break with one leg thru the crust over a little flat area that actually concealed a small pond. With the trains about 20 minutes behind schedule as usual, I had plenty of time to pour the water out of my boots and to wring out my socks and to remind myself to NEVER to trust any flat areas in the mountains when there is deep snow on the ground.

482 led the first train of the morning, although absolutely tiny as it emerges into view

The second train was led by 476, like 482's train, with a 10 car consist
