Last night, while packing up some papers that came from my mom's house after she died in '09, I found the "Souvenir Ticket of a Trip to Yesterday on the Narrow Gauge Silverton" from my first ride. Round trip, space in Car No. 28 of the second section, punched 1/2 for child. Date Aug 5, 1965. This (and an adult ticket, same info) were tucked inside some of my grade school report cards. So I would have been 4 yrs and 2 months old on that date. This would be the trip I, to the eternal disgust of my elder brother, got a cinder in my eye[1]. Didn't stop me from wanting to ride the train again, as often as I could talk dad into it[2] (later, as often as I could make to to Durango) but is the reason I always wear a cap around (coal-fired)steam engines!

[1] And the next year I got one from a July 4th fireworks display. Ray still brings both up at every opportunity. He seems to be still angry that I spoiled *his* fun both times.
[2] If memory serves, 1970, 1976 & 1979 but I haven't found those tickets.
