I rode the platform of the first coach much of the way to Silverton, enjoying the loud exhaust of the hard working engine, along with a few cinders ( the forceful exhaust tossed the cinders high
enough to land a few cars back on the train)
In the late afternoon my dad took a few more photos as the train made it's way thru the weeds and as the happy passengers enjoyed lounging on the open air platforms of the coaches
Finally, returning to real life, here is 476 leaving Silverton yesterday, May 19, as another snow storm is brewing in the high country. It is amazing that 476 is still doing what she did on that summer day 59 years ago, thanks, in no small measure, to the dedicated DSNG management and shop crews in Durango
