No fossil fuels are being consumed in this climate-friendly rail inspection vehicle. The inspector sits in the front seat, and four crew members in the back seat are operating the rocker type propulsion unit. This scene is just outside New Jalpaiguri in northern India, where the 2-foot gauge Darjeeling Himalayan Railway crosses the broad gauge.
Note also the climate-friendly less-than-carload freight being transported on the track
Here the LCL carrier has wisely stepped off the track to let the inspection vehicle pass
Moments later the 2-foot gauge 0-4-0 with her 5-man crew (engineer, fireman, coal breaker and 2 sanders) crossed the diamond
Shortly the two sanders had their hands full (of sand) as the train started the 9,000 foot climb to Ghum
