I had to access a storage external drive for something and found a folder of Ernie Robart Black and White images. These have probably been seen before, and perhaps recently scanned by Russ Sperry. Anyway when he allowed me to use his 1968 movie film footage to combine with Scholl footage of 1968 "Last Steam Freights 1968" was born. I tried to tell the story of the entire year, and of course there was lots Ernie didn't have on movie film, nor did we.
So these stills were sometimes used to fill in some blanks. I don't have dates here, but they are pretty well-known events mostly. So excuse me if these are old hat, but thought I would post them.
These may be out of order. First is 476 and 478 on their break-in run at the end of April I believe of 1968. They ran without a train to Lava, where we see 476 on one leg of Lava Loop on a snowy day.
This one is Aug. 31, 1968 as 483 is making the Farmington turn from Durango. This was the last regular service D&RGW freight to operate. These two cars had wallboard if I remember right, and were original going to be sent by truck and the owner reneged and made them haul it by rail. It is about to be delivered here in Farmington.
This is the Park Service inspection train, heading to Cumbres from Chama....October 1968. 483 was the power from Durango to Alamosa.
Park Service inspection train again, I believe the day before(first day out of Durango). Not sure where this is, perhaps Gato, or somewhere else! Oct 1968
483 ready to depart with the Park Service Train at Durango, duh!!! Oct 1968.
