C&S 8027 Progres

March 29, 2019 08:51AM
Finally had some decent weather here this week, thus some progress on C&S 8027;

New (at least to 8027) "A" end needle beam and queen posts. The pine needle beam started out as a D&RGW high side gondola side sill, then became a D&RGW 3000 series boxcar needle beam and is now on C&S 8027. As a side note, the side and intermediate sill spacing is the same on a D&RGW 3000 series boxcar and C&S 8027, I was able to use the original bolt holes in the needle beam.

8027 up in the air with the "A" end truck rolled out so work can start on swapping out the body bolster.

8027 as it sits now, the truck rolled back under the end sill for added support while working under the car.

A long winded version of C&S 8027's story thus far can be found at the following links;

Present plan is to bring 8027 to Como during the second week of June
