Ernie also was familiar with other 2 foot gage line in the West. He once visited the quarry railroad that was a giant 2' electrified line at Davenport, Calif on the end of the branch out of Santa Cruz. The 2' line was still operating and he covered it all, but I never got to see any of those photos.
He often stopped in Death Valley and checked on the Baby Gage line who rails are still on miles of those mountains. That was once used as a tourist line with tunnels and high wooden trestles but got shut down and has never been dismantled. I'm not sure who owns it but likely the government as part of a reservation.
I'm not sure but Ernie likely visited the Gilpin tram and Gordon or Mall Ferrell could answer that.
Ernie fully explored and walked the entire SCPA&M two foot gage line in NM. He also rode the Victor & Cripple Creek tourist line. He was quite successful in getting to most of the attractions in the country and beyond. I sure miss him.
