A REAL San Juan Winter....

March 15, 2019 01:07PM
The Colorado Avalanche Center reports that so far in March the San Juans have received six to ten FEET of new snow with about a foot of water. This is close to March record snow falls with still half of the month to go. All of this has set off an epic avalanche cycle. Red Mountain Pass north of Silverton has been closed for over a week and judging from the CDOT cameras it won't reopen soon, In my vague memory over 40 years this is the longest closure I can recall. This could mean a massive digout for the D&S in the upper narrows. Has anybody looked at the slide paths on the C&T just below Windy Point?
Its all just a reminder that this is mountain railroading and mountains are hard cold & wet.
