Ah yes, FS maps. I was introduced to them years ago by my wife's cousin and her husband who spent a lot of time in Roosevelt NF around Rocky Mountain NP. I was amazed at the detail, eventually navigating much of Colorado and other states with them whenever they covered the area I was in. most of them are scaled to approx 1/4" = 1 mile. They are not as detailed as topo maps but are great for navigating main roads as well as back roads. I have an extensive collection from numerous National Forests from Tennessee to Alaska to Arizona and in between. I am on my fourth or fifth edition of some Colorado maps. Love them things. Every time I was traveling in a new state with NF, I would search out the local Ranger station or field office to add to my collection. I believe you can order them online, or at least you used to be able to.
