I am much surprised about Earl's low train weight of 975 tons, which is far from a maximum load for 2 K37s. I did some playing with the numbers before the original posting and estimated a load close to the limit. Of course my guesstimate included lots of unknowns, especially the actual weight of the loads. So here is my wild guess estimate and I would be curious where the numbers are out of line.
Tonnage limit Antonito-Cumbres for two K37s @ 840 tons = 1,680 tons
Adjustment factor 44 cars @ 4tons = 176 tons
Actual tonnage limit = 1,504 tons
Tare weight of train: 17 box cars@11 tons = 187 tons
7 4500 gons @15 tons = 105 tons
14 hi side gons@ 10 tons = 140 tons
5 flat cars @ 8 tons = 40 tons
1 caboose @ 6tons = 6 tons
Total = 478 tons
Loads 30 cars @ 25 tons = 750 tons assumes 25 tons per car of drill mud, 25 tons per pipe load
7 cars @ 30 tons = 210 tons assumes large pipe @ 5 tons each (5 per hi side gon, 6 per 4500 car
So total weight 1,438 tons, pretty close to the 1,504 ton limit. Of course that assumes that cars are loaded close to their weight limit, which may be far from reality. Anyway, just playing a silly numbers game.
