Wow! I would foresee a number of new, costly issues faced even after a overland belt system was installed. I admit I am not that familiar with these systems but given the 26 miles of remote, unpatrolled, and unfenced route it would need to traverse, the belt system would be susceptible to tampering and sabotage by off-roaders, premature wear of moving parts by sandstorms, and if one part of the system breaks the whole production stops. With the railroad, equipment failure can be easily overcome by setting out a bad car or swapping locomotives. Damage to the track can be quickly repaired as USG has all the materials onsite to do so. I definitely see the practicality of keeping the railroad.
